Market Operation Reports

To inform the Market Participants and the general public about the performance and outlook of the WESM, the following reports are published:

The reports are updated and published through this website at different times of the day based on the availability of market information required for their preparations.

Previous Day Market Summary

The market summary for the previous day operation compares the actual market results to the projections prepared for that day. The first table compares forecasted demand and reserve requirements with the actual operating results. The four sample points, Morning Peak, Afternoon Peak, Evening Peak, and Off-Peak represent the significant contours of a typical daily load curve. A graphical comparison of the actual to the forecasted demand is also shown below the first table.

The second table in this report summarizes the total generation offers and demand bids that were submitted for the previous day to meet the system demand and reserve requirements. The total bids and offer gives a broad indication of the available supply for energy and reserve in the market. Note however that the level of supply may be reduced by existing constraints in the system.

The summary of the generation and reserve schedules reflects the total capacity of resources that were cleared in the market for dispatch scheduling. A comparison schedules with the total bids and offers and the demand forecast will indicate the adequacy of supply for energy and reserve in the market.

The resulting average prices are compared with the projected prices on the fourth table. The comparison is also shown graphically below this table. Energy prices presented are load-weighted average marginal prices as presented in the real-time market report. Reserve prices are based on regional reserve clearing price in the market.

The reports are updated and published at 12:00 noon of every business day.

Next Day Market Projection

The market summary report for the next day provides information on the demand forecasts, supply offers and the projected market prices for the succeeding day.

The first table summarizes the forecasted demand and reserve requirements for four sample points, namely, Morning Peak, Afternoon Peak, Evening Peak, and Off-Peak which represent the significant contours of a typical daily load curve. A graphical comparison of the forecasted demand is also shown below this table.

The second table in this report summarizes the total generation offers and demand bids that were submitted for the next day to meet the forecasted system demands and reserve requirements. The total bids and offer gives a broad indication of the available supply for energy and reserve in the market for the coming day. Note however that the level of supply may be reduced by existing constraints and scheduled outages in the system.

The projected load-weighted average prices for each of the sample points are shown on the fourth table. The reserve prices shown in this table are based on regional reserve clearing price in the market. The projected hourly prices for energy are also presented graphically below this table.

The reports are updated every business day at five o’clock in the afternoon.

Previous Week Market Summary

The Previous Week Market Summary Report is published every Wednesday morning and summarizes the highlights in electricity trading in the WESM for the previous week (Monday to Sunday). It provides insight on the supply (market offers) & demand conditions, energy volume, and nodal and load weighted average prices for the week, except where otherwise stated.

Next Week Market Projection

The market summary report for the week ahead provides information on the demand forecasts, supply offers and the projected market prices for the succeeding seven days of operations.

The first table summarizes the forecasted peak demand and reserve requirements for the seven successive days ahead. This table is complimented by graphs of the daily load curves for the next seven days.

The second table in this report summarizes the total generation offers and demand bids that were submitted for the next seven days to meet the forecasted peak system demands and reserve requirements. The total bids and offer gives a broad indication of the available supply for energy and reserve in the market in the coming week. Note however that the level of supply may be reduced by existing constraints and scheduled outages in the system.

The projected load-weighted average prices at peak demand for each of the seven days are shown on the fourth table. The reserve prices shown in this table are based on regional reserve clearing price in the market. The hourly load-weighted average prices for energy are also presented graphically for each of the seven days projected.

The reports are updated every business day at five o’clock in the afternoon.
